Obama goes to War - 50% of Rebels are Jihadists

Nearly 50% rebel fighters are Jihadists
There are nearly 50,000 hardline Islamists/Jihadists
being funded and armed by Islamist Saudi Arabia,
Islamist Turkey, the Gulf States & the CIA.

Constitution?  What Constitution?  -  Without a vote of Congress, Dear Leader Obama has effectively declared war against Syria.  For months Obama has been arming the Islamist rebels trough our "friends" in Saudi Arabia and Turkey.  Now our Leader has stopped pretending and will ship arms directly to the rebels.

Obama waived a provision of federal law designed to prevent the supply of arms to terrorist groups to clear the way for the U.S. to provide military assistance to “vetted” opposition groups fighting Syrian dictator Bashar Assad.

Our Dear Leader, citing his authority under the Arms Export Control Act, announced that he would “waive the prohibitions in sections 40 and 40A of the AECA related to such a transaction,” reports the Washington Examiner.

All this in the face of a new report showing that nearly half the rebel fighters in Syria are now aligned to jihadist or hardline Islamist groups according to a new analysis of factions in the country's civil war.

Opposition forces battling Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria now number around 100,000 fighters, but after more than two years of fighting they are fragmented into as many as 1,000 bands.

The new study by IHS Jane's, a defense consultancy, estimates there are around 10,000 jihadists - who would include foreign fighters - fighting for powerful factions linked to al-Qaeda.

Another 30,000 to 35,000 are hardline Islamists who share much of the outlook of the jihadists, but are focused purely on the Syrian war rather than a wider international struggle says the UK Telegraph.

There are also at least a further 30,000 moderates belonging to groups that have an Islamic character, meaning only a small minority of the rebels are linked to secular or purely nationalist groups.

Charles Lister, author of the analysis, said: "The insurgency is now dominated by groups which have at least an Islamist viewpoint on the conflict. The idea that it is mostly secular groups leading the opposition is just not borne out."

Islamists gaining strength among rebels in Syria
CNN reports how Islamist groups are gaining strength among rebels in Syria.

A statement posted online by Islamists announced the launch of an ISIL military offensive in the eastern district of Aleppo which it called "Cleansing Evil". "We will target regime collaborators, shabiha [pro-Assad militias], and those who blatantly attacked the Islamic state," it added, naming the Farouq and Nasr factions.

Al-Qaeda has assassinated several FSA rebel commanders in northern Latakia province in recent weeks, and locals say they fear this is part of a jihadist campaign to gain complete control of the territory.

As well as being better armed and tougher fighters, ISIL and Jabhat al-Nusra have taken control of much of the income-generating resources in the north of the country, including oil, gas and grain.

This has given them significant economic clout, allowing them to "win hearts and minds" by providing food for the local population in a way that other rebel groups cannot.

ISIS has also begun a program of "indoctrination" of civilians in rebel-held areas, trying to educate Syria's traditionally moderate Sunni Muslims into a more hard-line interpretation of Islam.

In early September, the group distributed black backpacks with the words "Islamic State of Iraq" stamped on them. They also now control schools in Aleppo where young boys are reportedly taught to sing jihadist anthems.

"It seems it is some sort of a long-term plan to brainwash the children and recruit potential fighters," said Elie Wehbe, a Lebanese journalists who is conducting research into these activities.

Obama ships chemical weapons gear
to Syrian Rebels
Never thought I’d see the day where the U.S. government is trying to
save al-Qaeda jihadists from being attacked with WMD.

President Barack Obama on Monday cleared the way for the US to send chemical weapons-related assistance to the Syrian opposition, as well as international organizations working inside the war-torn Middle Eastern country.

The move comes nearly a month after a deadly chemical weapons attack near Damascus that raised the specter of a US military strike and resulted in a diplomatic deal aimed at stripping Syria of its stockpiles of deadly gases reports the Associated Press.

While the White House says the international response should deter future attacks, the authorization of chemical weapons-related assistance signaled that the US was at least preparing for the possibility that the deadly gases might be used again.

The White House said the non-lethal assistance could fall into three categories:
  • Chemical weapons-related “personal protective” equipment to international organizations working in Syria, including the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons
  • Medical assistance to strengthen local Syrian health care providers’ ability to prepare for and respond to the use of chemical weapons
  • Defensive chemical weapons training and protective equipment to vetted members of the Syrian opposition to protect against the use of deadly gases.

The U.S. is arming Islamists in Syria

Most of the weapons being sent from Saudi Arabia and Qatar to Syrian rebels are going to hard-line Islamic jihadists as opposed to secular opposition groups that the West wants to strengthen, American officials and Middle Eastern diplomats told David Sanger of the New York Times.
In 2011 the U.S. sold $33.4 billion worth of weapons to Saudi Arabia and $1.7 billion to Qatar as sales tripled to a record high and accounted for nearly 78 percent of all global arms sales.
.
So although the U.S. is not sending arms directly to rebels, most of the weapons being sent by Saudi Arabia and Qatar were purchased from the U.S. and are being funneled to the opposition by the CIA.
