AMC's "Turn" is off to a modest start

"Please Don't Educate Me."
AMC viewers vanish into a black hole frightened to
death that they might learn something.

By Gary;

Education.  One of the most frightening words in modern American culture.

American Movie Classics is doing some wonderful original programming, but shows based in history are tricky.

Viewers fear that they might accidentally learn something that they tried hard to avoid doing back in high school.  So channels get switched or the viewers play with their shiny new toy phones that have pretty colors and make cute sounds.

It is what I call the "retardation" of America.

The AMC channel was on a high a week ago when "The Walking Dead" Season 4 finale delivered 15.7 million viewers blowing away all the networks by a wide margin.

A week later AMC drops the Revolutionary War drama "Turn" into the same time slot only to see an underwhelming 2.1 million viewers.  Totally moronic programming like the "Real Housewives of Atlanta" came in ahead with 3.6 million viewers.

Now I am a fanatic Walking Dead fan.  Nothing satisfies the soul like an old fashioned zombie slaughterfest.  But there is also room in my life for other types of programming.

AMC viewers did not even give the new series Turn a chance.  They ran away at high speed and jumped into a Nielsen ratings black hole never to be seen again.

As for the show itself, it was fairly well done.  Lots of imperial British soldiers are killed, and that is always a good thing.

The spy drama Turn, may eventually turn into something worth talking about, but the 90-minute premiere was intent on setting up Something Really Big For Later.

It takes time to develop characters and plot.  We will see in the coming weeks where the series goes.
