Sunday Concert - Ruth Etting



Going Deep Into the Moldy Oldies
  • I enjoy almost all forms of music.  Ruth Etting takes us back to the era of the Roaring Twenties as well as the Great Depression.  If you have not heard Ruth before then click and enjoy.


Ruth Etting (1896 – 1978) was an singing star and actress of the 1920s and 1930s, who had over 60 hit recordings and worked in stage, radio, and film.

Etting was signed to Columbia Records in February 1926.

She is known as "America's sweetheart of song". Her signature tunes were "Shine On, Harvest Moon", "Ten Cents a Dance" and "Love Me or Leave Me". Her other popular recordings included "Button Up Your Overcoat", "Mean to Me", "Exactly Like You" and "Shaking the Blues Away".

In 1937 she retired from recording.  She moved to an eight acre farm outside of Colorado Springs in 1938.  Etting died in Colorado Springs in 1978, aged 81.
