Obama to ship illegal aliens to navy base in West Virginia

A Bipartisan Screw Job

  • Obama is an open borders whore. But note the GOP controlled Congress has refused to pass any new bills increasing the size of the border patrol, building walls or arresting businessmen hiring illegals.

(Charleston Gazette-Mail)  -  Representatives of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will visit the recently decommissioned U.S. Navy base at Sugar Grove in Pendleton County on Monday and Tuesday to determine if the site is suitable for providing temporary shelter for children unaccompanied by adults who are apprehended while crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
“We are evaluating a variety of potential shelters around the United States and monitoring the referral numbers of children coming into our care to ensure we have enough beds in our capacity,” said Andrea Helling, a spokeswoman for HHS.
Representatives from the General Services Administration, which has managed the 123-acre base since the Navy Information Operations Command ceased operations at the facility in September, will accompany HHS staff touring the site, according to Helling.
HHS’s Office of Refugee Resettlement — which is required by law to provide shelter for unaccompanied children referred to its care by the U.S. Border Patrol or the U.S. Department of Homeland Security — is expanding its capacity to provide shelter for an already high and potentially increasing number of minors now being apprehended along the U.S. southern border.
In November, the refugee office increased the number of beds it provides through standard shelters from 7,900 to 8,400, and in December began securing 700 more beds that are now in use, along with 2,400 short-term beds that were secured on a reserve basis.
Also in December, HHS began working with the GSA, the Department of Defense and the Department of Labor to identify federally owned properties that could be used to provide additional locations for temporary shelters.
That’s what brought the Sugar Grove base to the attention of HHS officials.
“The initial evaluation is just beginning,” said Shayna Varner, a spokeswoman for Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin.
