Captain America turns his back on America, or at least the studio did

America is Left in the Dust
Captain America is Released Overseas First

  • Talk about the decline of the U.S.  Hollywood used to be the symbol for movies. But self absorbed lazy Americans sit on their asses and don't want to go to the theaters, and instead sit around and play with their toy phones.
  • So what is left of "Hollywood" premiers new films overseas first. America is increasingly becoming a secondary market.
  • For example: 67% of the box office for Avengers: Age of Ultron was overseas. Some 76.7% of Furious 7's box office was overseas. The same is true for the last James Bond 77.3%  and Mission Impossible 71.4% of the box office was offshore.

(The Hollywood Reporter)  -  The showdown between Team Captain America and Team Iron Man is about to begin.

On Wednesday, Disney and Marvel Studios' Captain America: Civil War begins rolling out internationally, where it could fly past $200 million by the end of Sunday, on par with the international launch of Avengers: Age of Ultron ($212 million).

Civil War, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, is opening in numerous foreign markets a week ahead of its May 6 launch in North America, where it's likewise expected to pull in massive numbers. It currently boasts a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes (if that holds, it will be the best-reviewed Marvel film to date).

The movie opens in roughly 63 percent of the foreign marketplace this weekend, including France, South Korea, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Japan and the U.K. Major markets opening day-and-date with the U.S. include China, Russia and Italy.
